Summer Dance Camps
Each year Luna offers week-long summer dance camps for children and teens. Summer Dance Camps allow children an opportunity to dance all day, make new friends and create original works. Dancers new to Luna, as well as veterans are welcome. Themed curriculum allows dancers with diverse experience to participate at their own level.
Mini-camp
Half-day camps for children ages 5-7 provide opportunity for exploratory play through dance. Mini-camps also serve as a laboratory for teachers attending our Summer Institutes or teens participating in our teacher-in-training program.
Luna Kids Dance camp
Young dancers 8-11 attend camp Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. They dance, take nature walks, make new friends and choreograph a group dance around a particular theme. Past Luna camp themes have included nature & the environment, weather, opera, underwater worlds, and dance-theater.
Teen Choreography Workshop
Teens new to dance, as well as those with strong technical skills in dance come together to learn the art of choreography. Throughout the week teens find original movement themes to develop into their own personal expressions. They create motifs and develop them, learn to marry music with dance, explore group forms and transitions. By the end of the week they are ready to showcase a lengthy group work to perform for families and friends. Past workshops have also completed site-specific choreographic works, dance videos, and learned from guest instructors of particular styles and genre. Knowing that teens biological clocks tick later, camp begins at 10:00 am and runs until 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Teen Teachers-in-Training
Learn how to teach from Luna’s veteran dance faculty. Four teen interns are selected to participate in this week-long training opportunity. Assist in the mini-camp, attend seminars with peer interns, choreograph a teen dance. For more information contact erin elally@lunadanceinstitute.org or click here for application.
