Class Placement
We expect that the material in each course will benefit a child enrolling throughout the age span indicated. We design all of our class curricula to develop over several sessions. Because children develop skills at different rates, progression looks different for each child. Our teaching philosophy allows plenty of room for children to work at their own level. Please review our class descriptions and age categories and call if you have questions regarding the most appropriate placement.
Year-long Program
Luna’s school-age (5+) program is designed to be year-long. Dancers are encouraged to sign-up for the full 29-week program, running September 10, 2018 – June 1, 2019. Enrollment for the full 29 weeks is required for Improv + Composition and Choreography + Performance students.

Absences
Consistency is essential in building community and for individual artistic growth. If your child should be absent for any reason, please contact your child’s dance teacher or speak with a Luna faculty member at 510.883.1118.
Refund Policy
Class size is limited and group learning is important to us at Luna. Therefore, we do not provide make-ups or refunds for any classes missed for any reason.
- No credit will be given for missed classes.
- No refunds will be given for any reason. If the student needs to withdraw from a class due to an unexpected, serious injury or prolonged illness, please discuss with your child’s dance teacher.
Late enrollment
Luna’s studio curriculum is designed to progress from class to class over the semester, and we encourage all dancers to participate in the entirety of the course to benefit fully and build community within the class. Late admission may be accepted on a case-by-case basis without priority.
Tuition Assistance
Limited Tuition Assistance is available each semester to those who qualify. Please contact a Luna faculty member at 510.883.1118 for an application or more information.
Observation
School-Age Progression: Families are invited to observe on scheduled observation days (TBA,) to keep the space safe for creative risk-taking.
Early Childhood Progression: Parents and care-givers dance alongside their infant, waddler, and toddler children in each class. As 3s grow in independence, parents shift from fellow dancers to active audience members. At age 4, dancers experience their first class on their own, and families will have designated times to watch, as communicated by the teacher.
Photography/videography
In order to protect the privacy of our families, photography/videography is not allowed in our studio classes or at events. Occasionally, studio teachers will take photos to share with families privately, or will invite parents to particular classes to photograph their child only.
Teaching Staff
Luna Dance Institute is proud to have one of the highest qualified faculties in California. Our rigorous certification process is two years with ongoing staff development. It includes child development theory, contemporary learning theories and dance instructional methods. Our goal is to keep classes and instructors constant within any academic year, but to rotate teachers from year to year within sites and age groups.
Attire
We suggest comfortable, loose clothing for all movement classes. Bare feet are required.
Punctuality & Entering Space
Entering a huge dance room once a class is already in progress can be intimidating for children. Timely arrival within 5 minutes before class will help make your child’s transition easier. Students must be picked up on time. Children can be easily distracted when families enter/exit the space while class is in session. Please stay in designated waiting area during class time or pick-up child after class. Luna does not provide before/after care.
Site-specific rules
The dance studio is a sacred art-making space. Please keep your children under your supervision and in the designated waiting area until the teacher brings them into the dance space. While water bottles are encouraged, other food and drink are not permitted in the studio space. Shoes must be kept off the dance floor. Please keep all cell phone conversations outside.
Parking
Luna’s studio is located at 605 Addison Street, overlooking the Aquatic Park and close to the 4th Street commercial district. You can find free parking along Bolivar Dr., Second St. or Essex Way. Some spots are also available in the animal shelter parking lot right in front of Luna.
Workshop Fee
If you have not paid the $25 PL User Fee in the previous 12 months, this will need to be added to your workshop purchase.
Payment Terms
All tuition fees are payable in full, in advance unless other payment plans are agreed upon with Luna administration.
Refund Policy
If you decide to cancel your registration up to 3 weeks before scheduled date, we will refund your pre-paid tuition minus 20% administration fee. There is no refund, rebate or credit given for partially completed workshops.
