Giving Tuesday 2017

#GivingTuesday #MPACT #LunaFamilyDance

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving through the power social media. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks-off the charitable season.

This #GivingTuesday (November 28, 2017) Luna Dance Institute is raising funds for its MPACT (Moving Parents and Children Together) program, a program that brings parent-child dance classes to families in the child welfare systems. MPACT serves families that are reunifying after periods of separation brought about by substance abuse, domestic violence, court order, immigration, homelessness, or other hardships. Luna brings MPACT classes to residential substance-abuse treatment centers, homeless shelters, incarceration facilities, public libraries, and other settings where participants are likely not to have regular access to dance. During Luna’s #GivingTuesday campaign, we’ll be sharing MPACT stories and videos. Check them out on Luna’s Facebook page.

Here are a few quotes from families who have danced in our MPACT program:
“My daughter shakes off her sadness when we dance.” – Oakland mom of a 5 year-old.

“She likes me participating with her. Something that me and her can actually do together. That gives me some type of bonding with her that doesn’t require reading or homework. So, it’s fun. It’s nice. She enjoys it. I enjoy it.” – Parent at 81st Ave. library.

Mom shared that she had been hospitalized and this was a great chance to reconnect.
Child says, “My family is all together!” – Family at 81st Ave. library.
