Dance in Early Childhood

tri hoopLuna has been recognized as experts in early childhood education. Our faculty has studied child development, attachment and play theories, early fundamental movement patterns and the work of Reggio-Emilia schools. We offer a full palette of experiences in ECE for families, educators and organizations.

For families and children. Young children learn about themselves and the world through movement, as dance is fully integrated into their exploration and play. Luna’s early childhood dance progression supports their discoveries through  classes rich in body part articulation, spatial exploration, music and rhythm. Our Infant, Wadder & Toddler parent-child classes emphasize relationship-based dance curriculum and practice the developmental patterns critical to early learning. Three & Four year olds are developing autonomy through gross motor exploration and play. Luna’s Creative Dance Play classes offer a safe, fun-filled starting place for learning to dance on their own. MPACT  (Moving Parents and Children Together) provides relationship-strengthening classes for families with children of all ages, and embodied parent-education throughout Oakland.

For educators and parents, Luna offers Professional Learning activities that support bringing dance to young children, including:

  • Workshops in Dance in Early Childhood and Parent/Child Relationship-based Dance
  • Early Childhood Practioner Exchanges, soft-facilitated by our expert colleagues in the field
  • Dance & the Brain Mini Conference
  • Luna’s biannual Family Dance Institute
